Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
A senior official said the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
