Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a dare for partners in committed relationships who are fans of scary movies: Get comfortable with your loved one and stream Together. This independent film success of 2025 recently had its online premiere via Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like standard biological terror, but beneath Together exists a intense meditation about how we choose to love one another.

An Introductory Film Exploring Relationship Dynamics

Together is the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for ten years. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a unique chemistry to their characters, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The story commences when Millie and Tim relocate from the metropolis to the country for professional reasons. A commonly used narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s largely where the cliches cease. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

A Paranormal Spark

While hiking near their new home, a violent storm occurs, and the protagonists discover an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a mysterious influence begins influencing the couple. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a methodically building fright fest, interspersing moments of hallucinatory nightmares, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes in the middle of something grotesque). Shanks skillfully blends these components expertly and delivers them in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and feeling of intimacy is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and distant from his support system. He dreads the concept of completely losing his individual identity in Millie. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he can’t drive and relies on Millie for getting around.

Shanks’ smartest move in Together never makes one partner or the other the clear bad guy.

Both characters face the kind of problems that arise in most partnerships after ten years. Fundamentally, they still love one another. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of codependency and fully committing to a partner, the allegory never feels clumsy or self-important. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights serve the other in harmony.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that those not in relationships have understood the narrative as a powerful case for remaining unattached. Conversely, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them reconcile.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could potentially serve as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the conclusion inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you identify in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your significant other and state, “We could get through that together”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can experience right now.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu at present.
